Jacob Sirmon threw for three touchdowns, Dallas Dixon had two receiving scores and Central Michigan dominated Robert Morris 45-0 on Saturday. It was Central Michigan's first shutout since November 23, 2013, a 37-0 win over UMass. Sirmon connected with Hunter Buczkowski for a 3-yard score and with JaCorey Sullivan for 24 yards to extend the Chippewas lead to 19-0 with 4:49 left before halftime. A little more than three minutes later, Daniel Richardson threw a 16-yard pass to Dallas Dixon for a 28-0 advantage. The Chippewas (1-1) took the second-half kick and marched 68 yards in eight plays that ended with Sirmon throwing a 6-yard scoring pass to Dixon for a five-touchdown lead. Lew Nichols III had 79 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown and Kalil Pimpleton tallied 58 yards with a touchdown for CMU. Navy inside linebacker Tama Tuitele has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a published report. Rivals.com reported via its NCAA Transfer Portal Twitter feed that Tuitele, a junior who played in 14 career games for the Midshipmen, was considering a transfer. Navy athletics spokesman Scott Strasemeier declined to comment on the report, stating that Tuitele remains on the football roster. Tuitele, like all juniors, is due to sign the two-for-seven papers binding midshipmen to two more years at the Naval Academy and five years of military service. Tuitele can leave the academy with no repercussions before signing those papers before classes start for the fall semester. Tuitele's career at Navy has been beset by injuries. The Colorado native started four of six games as a freshman before suffering a season-ending injury against South Florida. He totaled 19 tackles that season and led the team with five solo stops against Memphis. - Capital Times

The new Northern Colorado quarterback has a big head, the offensive coordinator kidded. That same O.C. was grounded twice during camp, the head coach cracked. Those McCaffrey boys, just full of jokes. On this, they're quite serious: Teaming up to help lead the Bears back to football prominence. The Mac-to-Mac-to-Mac connection in Greeley features quarterback Dylan McCaffrey transferring in from Michigan and his big brother Max putting NFL tryouts on the backburner to serve as offensive coordinator. They're joining forces with their dad, Ed, the longtime NFL receiver who was hired as head coach in December 2019 and will finally make his college coaching debut Sept. 3 at Colorado (the Bears' season in 2020 was postponed due to the virus).

"We all want to get better. We all want to win football games," Dylan said Wednesday after practice. "That really brings the respect in, along with the love." The McCaffreys have long been one of the first families of football in Colorado. There's also Christian, a running back for the Carolina Panthers, and Luke, a quarterback at Rice. Of course, the glue is their mom, Lisa, who's always at games. As for the pressure of dealing with such a well-known last name - dad was a three-time Super Bowl winner with Denver and San Francisco - Dylan dismissed it: "I know my family because they're my family." - Denver Post

Former Michigan quarterback Dylan McCaffrey has transferred to Northern Colorado to play for a head coach he knows well - his father, Ed. McCaffrey entered his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal on Jan. 21 and announced Sunday night on Twitter he will be played for the Bears. "Extremely honored to announce I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at The University of Northern Colorado," he wrote above a panel of four photos. He wore No. 10 at Michigan and will wear No. 12 at UNC. McCaffrey opted out of the 2020 season last September and his plan was to transfer after graduating from Michigan. He was expected to compete for the starting job with Joe Milton and Cade McNamara, but made his decision last September after the Big Ten announced its plans to play a nine-game season beginning the following month. He was one of three big-name Michigan players to opt out of the season, joining receiver Nico Collins and cornerback Ambry Thomas, who are both preparing for the NFL Draft and just participated in the Senior Bowl. Former Michigan quarterback Dylan McCaffrey announced on social media he plans to transfer to Northern Colorado, where his dad is the head coach. In a Twitter post on Sunday night, McCaffrey wrote: "Extremely honored to announce I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at The University of Northern Colorado. Go Bears!!" It took a while, but Dylan McCaffrey has finally signaled his planned departure. The Michigan quarterback entered his name into the NCAA's transfer portal on Thursday, a Michigan spokesman confirmed to MLive, likely bringing an end to his career in Ann Arbor. McCaffrey opted out of playing the 2020 season back in September, and planned to transfer then, MLive reported at the time. He figured to be part of the competition for Michigan's starting quarterback role, eventually won by Joe Milton. A senior, McCaffrey will have two years of eligibility remaining. He appeared in 13 games during his Michigan career, completing 18 of his 35 pass attempts for 242 yards and three touchdowns, but was plagued by injury. - Ann Arbor News

The University of Northern Colorado football program won’t participate in the Big Sky Conference and FCS spring championship season. Instead, the Golden Bears, led by rookie head coach Ed McCaffrey, will pursue a modified non-conference schedule in late spring. The school cited the health and safety of its student-athletes and coaches along with "staffing and faculty challenges associated with multiple sports competing simultaneously." Northern Colorado is the fifth Big Sky program to either opt out of the spring season or to pursue a modified spring schedule. That didn't take long. On Wednesday, UW redshirt sophomore quarterback Jacob Sirmon officially entered the transfer portal. And on Friday, he announced his next destination. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Bothell product announced in a social media post that he will transfer to Central Michigan. "Excited for this new opportunity!" Sirmon tweeted. Sirmon - who was ranked as a four-star prospect, the No. 1 player in the state and the No. 6 pro-style passer in the 2018 class by the 247Sports Composite - also entered the transfer portal in April 2019, before removing his name just two days later. He served as Jacob Eason's primary backup last season, before losing a quarterback competition to redshirt freshman Dylan Morris this fall. On April 29, 2019, UW quarterback Jacob Sirmon entered his name in the transfer portal, before removing it two days later. It's more likely the second time sticks. Sirmon - a 6-foot-5, 240-pound redshirt sophomore from Bothell - has again entered the transfer portal, his father David Sirmon confirmed to The Times on Wednesday. A former Bothell High School standout, Sirmon appeared in six games in his UW career and completed 3 of 4 passes for 28 yards. He served as Jacob Eason's backup last season, completing 2 of 3 passes for 19 yards in mop-up duty. Despite being the odds-on favorite to assume the starting role this offseason, that spot went to redshirt freshman Dylan Morris — who has started all four games this fall. The Colorado Mesa football team made the long trip to South Dakota and got an extra present when they woke up this morning. The forecast called for a chance of snow but what they got was almost a blizzard with the field completely covered and flurries from the opening whistle to the final horn. The snow didn't stop the Mavericks as they churned out 392 yards on the ground in a 56-7 romp of Black Hills State on Saturday afternoon, pushing their record to 2-0 on the season. The win was the first for Colorado Mesa in Spearfish since 2014. The Mavericks rushed for 392 yards on the ground and finished with 549 yards of total offense, averaging 6.9 yards per play. Six players rushed the ball with four of the six rushing for over 50 yards in the game. The Maverick defense remained stout for the second straight week, limiting their opponents to less than 275 yards in both games. Linebacker Remington Green led the way with 11 tackles with 3.5 of those going for a loss. Pierre Hayes applied pressure on the quarterback, picking up a pair of sacks for 14 yards worth of losses. - Colorado Mesa Football

TCU football had another wide receiver enter the NCAA transfer portal this week. Senior Dylan Thomas has put his name in the portal, sources confirmed on Thursday. Thomas joins fellow receiver Al'Dontre Davis as Horned Frog players who entered the portal this week. Thomas, a senior from Fort Worth Paschal, started the first two games of the season but did not play in TCU's 21-14 loss to Kansas State last Saturday. Thomas had three catches for 37 yards this season. He played in five games, including four starts, before a season-ending injury in 2019. Thomas had an injury-plagued 2018 season, too, playing in just one game. Thomas finishes his TCU career with 25 catches for 301 yards and two TDs over 28 games. He is expected to graduate in December. With the NCAA freezing eligibility this year amid the coronavirus pandemic, Thomas will be eligible to play one more college season in 2021. Michigan quarterback Dylan McCaffrey is opting out of the upcoming season and is looking to transfer, a source close to the situation confirmed to The Detroit News on Wednesday. This news comes on the heels of the Big Ten announcing it will start a nine-game season Oct. 23-24. McCaffrey, who was competing for the starting job with Joe Milton and Cade McNamara, will graduate from Michigan in December and have two years of eligibility remaining. He is not the only Michigan player who has opted out. Receiver Nico Collins, who returned to play his final season rather than head to the NFL Draft after the bowl game earlier this year, reportedly has signed with an agent. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday that Collins signed with agent Drew Rosenhaus. Right tackle Jalen Mayfield and cornerback Ambry Thomas already have declared for the NFL Draft, and running back Christian Turner was the first Michigan player to announce his plans to opt out.

McCaffrey had the most experience of the returning quarterbacks at Michigan. In seven games last season, he was 10-of-20 for 116 yards and one touchdown as Shea Patterson's backup, while Milton was 3-of-7 for 59 yards and a touchdowns. McCaffrey played in six games in 2018 behind Patterson and was 8-of-15 for 126 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown last season and had 99 yards on 10 carries in 2018. - Detroit News

Michigan football players continue to go through voluntary practices despite the Big Ten canceling the fall season, but there's a twist. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is keeping his players engaged by having them train for what essentially will be an NFL combine. It's scheduled to be held in Michigan Stadium on Oct. 24, the day Michigan was to have played Ohio State in the restructured 10-game Big Ten schedule that was scrapped last week. The players will practice combine-specific drills these next nine weeks, four days a week, to prepare for the event that expects to draw NFL scouts and the players' families. Michigan players returned for voluntary practices Aug. 10.

Holding a scouting combine at the stadium is an effort to allow NFL scouts an opportunity watch and test the players, who will not have an opportunity to play football this fall. In the event of a spring season, which the Big Ten currently is exploring, this could give players who are considering their next step, whether to remain at Michigan or head to the NFL, an opportunity to play a spring season and still pursue the NFL because NFL teams will already have their measurables. One player told The Detroit News this format is keeping the players "interested, for sure."
